CBI Court Sentences Three to 3 Years’ Jail in Rs. 1.18 Crore Excise Duty Rebate Fraud

The CBI Court at Ahmedabad, by judgment dated 30 January 2026, convicted three accused for fraudulently availing rebate of central excise duty amounting to over Rs. 1.18 crore.

The case was registered by the CBI on 20 February 2009 against M/s Shree Sai Impex, Surat, and others, based on allegations that forged export documents were submitted as genuine to claim excise rebate. The investigation revealed that false rebate applications were filed, causing corresponding wrongful loss to Central Excise authorities at Surat.

The CBI Court held that the prosecution had successfully established the offence of fraudulent rebate claim. Samir Fateh Mohammad Immamuddin, Tejas Arvindbhai Desai, and Amit Murarlal Gupta were sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 50,000 each. Proceedings against one accused abated due to his death during trial.
